High school wrestler forfeits state tournament immediately when he sees who opponent is

In 2018, 18-year-old Brendan Johnson declined to wrestle against Jaslynn Gallegos at a state tournament. Brendan, a senior at Classical Academy, cited discomfort due to the physicality of wrestling with a girl, influenced by his Christian beliefs and upbringing.

Brendan clarified that he sees men and women as equal but acknowledges biological differences. Despite his decision, he placed sixth in the tournament, while Jaslynn and another girl placed fourth and fifth.

Jaslynn expressed disappointment but respected Brendan’s choice, emphasizing her identity as a wrestler regardless of gender.

The debate over Brendan’s decision continues. What’s your take on it? Share your thoughts below.
