Things We Had in Every 60s Kitchen

Today, we’re heading back to the swinging ’60s and reminiscing about the time when kitchens were bright, colorful, and full of life. Do you remember those days? I know I do! I can practically smell the aroma of my mom’s home-cooked meals wafting through the air. So grab a cup of coffee, and let’s travel back in time together!

Ah, the ’60s – when knotty pine cabinets began to conquer kitchens everywhere, giving them that cozy, woodsy charm we’ve all come to know and love. And who can forget the peninsulas that were added to our countertops, making breakfast time and meal prep a social affair? I remember my siblings and I fighting over who got to sit at the peninsula during breakfast – those were the days!

Now, wait to get me started on the wallpapers! Busy patterns and an explosion of colors adorned the walls, making our kitchens feel alive and vibrant. Do you recall the oranges, mustards, harvest golds, and avocado greens that were all the rage? They definitely added a touch of excitement to our daily routines.

And let’s not forget the globe pendant lights hanging from our ceilings, illuminating our culinary creations and making our kitchens feel warm and inviting. They were the perfect finishing touch to our 1960s kitchen wonderland.

As a kid, I was fascinated by the electric can opener – one of the many small kitchen appliances that started showing up in our homes. My mom was so proud to have one; I was always eager to help her with the cans. The late ’60s also brought the introduction of microwave ovens, which, despite their hefty price tags, became a staple in many homes.

Who could forget the iconic CorningWare baking dishes? Those white dishes with the charming blue cornflower design were like prized possessions. And how about the wall-hung telephones that allowed us to chat with friends while preparing dinner? I still remember our avocado green rotary dial phone – such a classic!

Cereal and Pop-Tarts for breakfast? Yes, please! With their catchy advertising, those sugary delights had us all begging for more. And, of course, we can’t forget the impact of Julia Child and her groundbreaking cooking show, “The French Chef,” which inspired us to be adventurous in the kitchen.

Now that we’ve strolled down memory lane, I encourage you to relive those fantastic memories by watching this amazing video , showcasing the forgotten objects in every 1960s kitchen.
