Three members of the Hall of Fame Gospel Quartet, The Nelons, died in a tragic plane crash in Wyoming last week. Among the seven fatalities were musicians Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter, Amber Nelon Kistler. In the aftermath, there has been an outpouring of prayers and support for those affected.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, the daughter and fourth band member who was not on the plane, released a statement about the tragedy. “As many of you have heard, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday,” she said.
Streetman expressed gratitude for the support her family has received. “Thank you for the prayers that have been extended to me, my husband Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days,” she added.
The Campbell County, Wyoming Government posted a statement on Facebook detailing the fatal plane crash. “Today, July 26, 2024, at approximately 1300 hours, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies, Campbell County Fire Department, and Campbell County Health EMS responded to the report of an airplane crash north of Gillette,” the post read.
The post noted there were fatalities and that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident. “There are fatalities as a result of this crash, however, further information regarding fatalities will not be released from local agencies.”
The crash also caused a wildland fire near the site, which the Campbell County Fire Department is working to suppress with aircraft, heavy equipment, and engine crews. Further information on the fire’s status will be released by the Fire Department.
As the quartet is based in Atlanta, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp shared a message of support on X. “Marty, the girls, and I are truly saddened to learn of the tragic death of Larry Haynie and his wife, Lisa, along with all those lost in this horrible plane accident,” Kemp wrote. “Larry’s impact on our state, through his role as chairman of the Georgia Department of Corrections Board and his career in public safety, will not be forgotten.”
National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Keith Holloway stated on Saturday that the incident is still under investigation. “The aircraft is in a remote location, and once they gain access, they will begin documenting the scene and examining the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation,” Holloway explained.
