They are two NBA contemporaries, future Hall of Famers, and former teammates, but now they’re in very different positions in the Olympic arena. Stephen Curry is making his Olympic debut, approaching the experience with awe and soaking in every moment. In contrast, Kevin Durant is competing in his fourth—and likely final—Olympic Games, bringing a wealth of experience as one of the most seasoned athletes on the team.
Their shared history includes leading the Golden State Warriors to back-to-back NBA championships in 2017 and 2018 before Durant moved to the Brooklyn Nets. Now, they’re reuniting with LeBron James as the veteran presence on a Team USA squad that ranges from rookies to seasoned players.
Curry, Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, and Derrick White are making their first Olympic appearances. However, Curry, at 36, has missed previous opportunities due to various factors, making this experience particularly special for him.
“I’ve been imagining what this would feel like for a long time. It’s my first time here, and seeing guys like KD, who’s done it three times before, makes me appreciate this moment even more,” Curry said. “Being part of the Opening Ceremony and experiencing Paris from this unique perspective is something I’ll cherish.”
