Purpose and Maintenance of the Overflow Hole in Your Bathroom Sink

The small hole near the faucet on most bathroom sinks, often mistaken as unnecessary, serves a crucial purpose: it prevents overflow. Located about one-third up the basin, this hole is connected to the drainage pipe, allowing water to escape if the sink fills too high—like when a user forgets to turn off the faucet.

While this design helps avoid flooding, it can accumulate bacteria and mold, causing unpleasant odors. To clean it, mix vinegar and baking soda, pour the mixture into the hole, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing with warm water, ensuring a fresh, odor-free bathroom.
