Arkansas Couple Arrested for Attempting to Sell Baby for $1,000 and Beer

In Benton County, Arkansas, police arrested 21-year-old Darien Urban and 20-year-old Shalene Ehlers after they attempted to sell their two-month-old baby for $1,000 and a six-pack of beer.

The couple had signed a “contract” with a man named Cody Martin, agreeing to give him custody in exchange for the payment, with a stipulation that they could never contact each other again. The manager of the trailer park alerted authorities, and when police arrived, the baby was found with an intoxicated resident and required medical attention. Witnesses reported the child was in poor condition, and the parents were later charged with child endangerment and attempting to negotiate an illegal adoption. Both are now in custody and have been assigned public defenders.
