Stewart and Mark Cuban suggested Musk had ulterior motives in his controversial takeover of X in late 2022, aiming to influence public discourse. In response, Musk, a strong proponent of free speech, asserted that he protects freedom of expression on his platform, explaining that X’s open-source algorithm tailors content based on user interactions. He humorously noted that if users engage with “right-wing” accounts, the algorithm will show them more of that content, emphasizing the platform’s transparency.
