Wrestling Legend Passes Away at 66

His international fame was bolstered by his appearance at WCW’s Starrcade in 1990 alongside Konnan. Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, Misterio Sr. was a respected trainer, mentoring wrestlers including his son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio, his nephew Rey Mysterio Jr., Konnan, and Psicosis.

His passing comes shortly after the death of his brother, Roberto Gutierrez, adding to the family’s recent tragedies. Rey Mysterio Jr., currently active in WWE, recently lost the US Championship to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel.

Misterio Sr.’s contributions to professional wrestling, particularly in popularizing lucha libre, have left an indelible mark on the sport. His legacy continues through the careers of those he trained and inspired.
