Beloved Indie Director Passes Away Suddenly at 47

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that writer and director Jeff Baena, 47, died by suicide at his Los Angeles home on Jan. 3.

Baena, known for co-writing I Heart Huckabees and directing Life After Beth, was married to actress Aubrey Plaza since 2021. The couple had been together since 2011 but kept their relationship largely private.
