Man who protected royal family through darkest hour dies at 77

Prince Harry and Prince William once shared a close bond, especially during their youth and the tragic loss of their mother, Princess Diana. One man who witnessed their journey firsthand was Graham Craker, their personal bodyguard for 15 years.

Affectionately nicknamed “Crackers” by the brothers, Craker passed away at the age of 77. He stood by them during some of their darkest moments, including Diana’s funeral, where he walked behind the hearse and later comforted a grieving young William.

In his memoir Spare, Harry recalled fond memories of Craker, noting how much the brothers liked him. Even after retiring, Craker remained close to the family, attending William’s wedding and receiving the Royal Victorian Order from Queen Elizabeth II.

His sons described him as “an incredible man” who “lived his life so selflessly.”
