“NICEST JUDGE IN THE WORLD” GONE TOO SOON

Beloved Rhode Island Judge Frank Caprio, widely known as the “nicest judge in the world,” has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His heartfelt courtroom moments on the Emmy-nominated show Caught in Providence and his viral social media presence made him a symbol of compassion, fairness, and humanity. Gov. Dan McKee ordered flags to fly at half-staff, calling Caprio a state “treasure” who showed the world what justice looks like when tempered with kindness.

His family confirmed his passing and remembered him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Millions around the globe were touched by his empathy, and his legacy will live on through the countless acts of kindness he inspired. In his honor, loved ones urged people to carry forward his message of compassion in everyday life—just as he did for more than 35 years on the bench.
