SOME SECRETS DESERVE TO STAY LOCKED

She sounded relieved, almost too relieved, and that’s when something inside me shifted. The next morning, I scrolled through social media and saw her smiling with guests who weren’t even family — people she’d met just months ago. “Catering issue,” she said. What she really meant was, “You don’t fit the image I want for my big day.”

What she didn’t know was that I’d already written a speech — one that celebrated her mother’s memory, the sacrifices made to raise her, and the love our family had poured into her future. I deleted it without a second thought. The next time she calls, I’ll answer kindly, but she’ll never see the same warmth in my eyes again. Some lessons only bloom in silence — the kind that follows when someone finally realizes what they’ve lost.
