Batman and Rambo star has died aged 60

Israeli actor Alon Aboutboul, known for his roles in The Dark Knight Rises and Rambo III, has tragically died at the age of 60 after collapsing on a beach in northern Israel.

Aboutboul had just finished swimming at HaBonim Beach — a rugged Mediterranean hotspot — when he collapsed on shore in front of shocked tourists. Paramedics were called at 8:22 a.m. and tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The beloved actor, whose career spanned over four decades, gained international recognition for playing Dr. Leonid Pavel in The Dark Knight Rises and Nissem in Rambo III. He also appeared in Munich, Fringe, London Has Fallen, and the TV hit Snowfall, where he portrayed Mossad-linked drug lord Avi Drexler.

Born in 1964 in Kiryat Ata, Aboutboul trained at Thelma Yellin High School of Arts before launching a career that earned him top honors, including Ophir and Israeli Television Academy awards.

He is survived by his partner, writer/director Shir Bilya, and their four children.

Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar paid tribute, saying: “Alon brought depth and emotion to every character. His passing is a painful loss to Israeli culture.”
