Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president and heavily involved in his father’s campaign, clashed with MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday, July 15. The altercation began when Don Jr., alongside his younger brother Eric Trump, initially appeared willing to engage with Soboroff. However, when Soboroff suggested that his father was “a divisive figure,” Don Jr. countered, blaming the media for creating that perception. He argued, “I don’t think he was a divisive figure at all. I think the media created divisiveness around him. They lied about Russia collusion, called him a traitor, and attacked him in every possible way.” Don Jr. continued by asserting that media honesty about his father’s achievements would improve public perception. He stated, “If the media actually starts being an honest broker, talking about the things that he did, the prosperity he brought, the peace deals he signed around the world rather than the disaster we’re living right now, I think you’d do everyone in the country a big favor.”

The exchange grew more heated when Soboroff criticized Trump’s border policies, asking, “Will we continue to see policies like separating 5000 children deliberately from their parents?” Don Jr. retorted, “You mean like the Obama administration?” When Soboroff denied this, Trump Jr. simply replied, “Sure.”

Soboroff persisted, but Don Jr. dismissed the network, intentionally misnaming it to indicate bias, saying, “It’s MSNDNC so I expect nothing less from you clowns even today. Even 48 hours later, you couldn’t wait, you couldn’t wait with your lies and with your nonsense, so just get out of here.”
