Campbell’s Soup Faces Uncertain Future Amid Debt and Internal Conflict

Campbell’s Soup, a beloved American brand, is at risk of closure due to shifting consumer preferences for natural foods and a $9 billion debt from acquisitions. Internal strife between major shareholders—Dorrance family and hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb—has worsened the situation, with Loeb advocating for major changes and rebranding, opposed by the Dorrance family.

Despite this, Campbell’s has agreed to appoint two of Loeb’s directors to its board, hinting at potential changes. The brand’s potential closure highlights broader industry shifts away from processed foods and will be a key case study in balancing tradition with modern demands.
