Helene made landfall at 11:10 p.m. EDT Thursday night, about 10 miles west-southwest of Perry, Florida, as a Category 4 storm with 140-mph winds. The tropical storm is now centered 80 miles east-northeast of Atlanta, moving quickly northward at 30 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.

The NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for parts of eastern South Carolina, North Carolina, and southern Virginia. Numerous flash flood warnings are ongoing in Georgia and the western Carolinas, including high-end flash flood emergencies in western North Carolina, upstate South Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and northern Georgia.
