‘T.J. Hooker’ actor James Darren dies aged 88

James Darren, the actor known for his roles in Gidget, T.J. Hooker, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has passed away at the age of 88. He died in his sleep on Monday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but his son, Jim Moret, mentioned that Darren had been dealing with heart issues and was a patient in the hospital’s cardiac unit.

Darren, a former teen idol, gained fame for playing Moondoggie in Gidget (1959) and later reprised the role in its sequels. He also had a notable role as Officer Jim Corrigan on T.J. Hooker, appearing in 66 episodes. Beyond acting, he enjoyed a successful singing career and directed episodes of popular shows like Melrose Place and Beverly Hills, 90210.

James Darren will be remembered for his enduring talent and cool persona. Rest in peace.
